There’s a lot of small ways videogame and comic differ, but the biggest is how they use the original fairytales.

  1. (6:20) You gotta remember that the it has been thousands, or hundreds of years. Bigby would have had a lot of time to settle into his role as Sheriff. Its only those with the most bitter taste in their mouth that simply can't accept Bigby as a changed man (wolf). Mind you, even the comics say that he's regarded as the Poster Child of reform. He was given a second chance and he took to it like a fish to water (but not without some struggles along the way).

  2. (2:55) And the part where she openly admits to taking Baby Bear as her lover. But at the same time, she was such a hot headed activist, she didn't even really care about the Fables around her. And I no idea what made her believe she a bunch of non-bipedal Fable could just take over Fabletown with only a few modified firearms. And they didn't even have a Witch in their corner… some rebellion.

  3. The funniest thing about the fables comics is how Geppetto is an evil emperor.

  4. telltale has amazing games with amazing stories

  5. One thing I loved about The Wolf Among Us is how it explored that all the heroic Fables might not have been as altruistic as we were led to believe growing up. Such as Price Charming cheating on Snow White or The Woodsman being at Little Red Riding Hoods grandmother's house to rob the place and that he only saved her in hopes of a payday. Showing how the stories that are passed down can distort the events that actually happened.

  6. I agree that game is much better then the original comic. Tried reading. Almost joyless.

  7. The reasons explained in this video are the same as the ones that made me like the way they're writing for the game better than the comic. The latter is quite contrived and, like said in the video, teases us by stepping into heavier territory only to never develop it, and I honestly don't think this has to do with media format, but rather the writer's experience: one of the principles of writing is Chekov's gun, which pretty much establishes that one shouldn't focus on a new idea if u're not going to develop it, cuz not only are u wasting writing space and dragging the story w/ smth that leads nowhere, u're also using a dishonest narrative trick to keep ur audience hooked by promising smth u premeditatedly won't deliver.

  8. I recommend people to read the comics untill the 76 chapter. It goes downhill really fast.

  9. As I was playing, I wanted to make Bigby this melancholic man who doesn’t shy on being the monster; but tries to express, without words, that he won’t act as one. Because empty words will be worthless to those with closed minds

  10. Question: did you read the fables “wolf among us” comic or just read base fables?

  11. I don't think there are any racial tensions going just that those who can't afford glamour get the short stick of it.

  12. Ι dropped fables because it went way too political indirectly. Not judging or anything but freedom of speech and all.

  13. Anyone who has read the comics will agree that Bigby’s motivations aren’t as fleshed out as they are in the comics. He 100% grapples with his past and is distrusted by everyone in Fabletown. For the majority of the first arcs he is outright hated by a lot of folks in the series, despite the fact he really is just trying to keep them safe. This video is just…. Pretty wrong in most areas. Fables isn’t a noir comic, I will say that. But it is one of the best written and fleshed out comic series ever made.

  14. Hmm, this voice. Kitbosh? No… can't be.

  15. I completely agree. I read fables in bits and pieces before wolf among us, and never fell in love with it. But the wolf among is made me jump in head first. And yeah, it never fully gives me the feeling wolf did. Its definitely different but I wish we had more stuff wolf on the story at least for the first half or so, definitely would rather we could skip half of the dark ones story.

  16. A lot of bad faith arguments about the original comic story here that are highly inaccurate. For one thing, the characters all had to unite against a common enemy, the Adversary, who took over Fable Land and drove them from their homes. There was a war where many died. Some of it was putting aside past differences due to survive and a common enemy. Also, the characters weren’t exactly the idyllic archetypes they were portrayed as in their stories. IE Prince Charming who turns out to be a gold digging womanizer.

  17. I really like him and I think I’m the second one he might show more of He’s conflation between letting lose or being In control also when I was looking at the trailer for the second one when he turns into his wolf form it’s completely different maybe it’s because it’s either saying that this was the time when he didn’t really know either to be in control or to let loose or it could be that they wanted to do something different in the second game and have a different look either way I’m excited for the second game of this and I hope that may be snow him will be together in the second one

  18. Going back through this after hearing the announcement of its sequel made me giddy to hear what they have in store.

  19. NGL this is actually a really really decent video and I'm now a subscriber because of it.

  20. I’ve never heard of the comics, but i bought the game anyway. I actually like this game more than most of the Walking Dead, to be honest.

  21. The comics are way better than your apparent take on them. They do jump the shark at some point and get pretty much unreadable

  22. I know what you mean. The Wolf Among Us introduced me to Fables. I too played the game first and then read the comics.

  23. Here to tell everyone Wolf among us 2 is coming next year!

  24. I didn't care much for this game after the initial playthrough simply because the game says your choices matter, when in reality, the story plays out the same way each time.

  25. Well done critique and commentary. The Fable Noir of Wolf Among Us is such a rich and nuanced premise, and the synthy neon tonal juxtaposition overlayed to the grime of immigrant struggles is beautiful and original. We really lost something great when TTG collapsed.

  26. What Id like to see is Bigby's werewolf form be far more "Wolfy" and not a goblin with fur.

  27. Damn I didn't even know it was a comic ! I need to read this !!

  28. I guess its no longer canon to the comics acc to Bill Willingham

  29. Spoiler alert: I just hate how such good characters like Colin or blue beard the most well written characters end up dying a lame and distasteful death in the comics. The game really handle killing characters like the crooked man or bloody marry or Georgie, There deaths lead to something unlike the comic where it’s just kill off for the fun of it

  31. Like you, I played TWMU first then started reading Fables Comics…..and I was disappointed that Fables Comics isn't as engaging and interesting as the game's plot and dialogue….. It has some shiny moments but they weren't enough to make me continue reading after issue #60

  32. Here's hoping that Wolf Among Us Season 2 improves upon everything you pointed out. There's so many characters they can introduce and explore.

  33. I love The Wolf Among Us so I was kind of interested in the comics but now I'm not too pushed about reading them

  34. They did make a graphic novel version of the game that really expands on Bigby's past

  35. Hey, I barely found your video, two years later. Just wanted to say that it’s wonderful. I found Wolf Among Us through YT, and then I read the entirety of fables. Despite how long and how many more stories they had in the comic, and the first ever volume being a “who dunn it” like the game, I still preferred the game. Being grounded emotionally is a thing I’ve come to realize really matters to me in media. The Woodsman never shows up in the comic, ever. Yet I remember him more than Mr. Dark or “The Adversary”. His emotional arc and possible peace with his fabled and more successful enemy hit home. Your video just put into words what I’ve been thinking of for years. Cheers. I’ll be sure to watch more of your stuff in the future.

  36. Couldn't have said it better myself and completely agree. The comics really aren't bad, but I could never get into them after playing the game. I read bits and pieces, instead and was especially interested in the more emotional and human bits of the story. However, the comics seem to be really action-focused instead, which I didn't really like. I really liked reading the bits involving Bigby and his father and the drama surrounding that. I just wish Bigby's comic story was more about his redemption or his personal issues instead of constantly focusing on his love for Snow. I think it would've been fun to explore his character more.I'm also never going to get over finding out Red Riding Hood appeared in the comics, looking it up and finding out there weren't many scenes between her and Bigby.

  37. When you say "The Fable" comic in the title, I though you mean The Wolf Among Us game vs The Wolf Among Us comic, because there is comic version of the game, and the story is a little different, it has more side plot and side story the game don't have, building the characters more. But the event points of the story is still the same, bigby still investigate the head, he sill fight with beast, and crooket man still lose(but with a little twist) no spoiling the comic's ending. Unlike the game, the comic don't have multiple path, so you get to only see The Canon part of the story. The game is not 100% canon. Also, it's canon that bigby rip that guy's arm off at the bar? he's relapsing into his old violent self when he insulted snow. So the peaceful/non-hand ripping route in the game is not canon.
